How to read altcoin season
The Altcoin Season Index measures how many of the top coins outperformed Bitcoin over a 7 day window. When most altcoins beat Bitcoin, capital is rotating down the risk curve and it is called altcoin season. When most lag Bitcoin, capital is concentrating in Bitcoin and it is bitcoin season. A reading above 75 leans strongly to altcoins, below 25 leans strongly to Bitcoin, and the middle is mixed.
Why dominance matters
Bitcoin dominance is Bitcoin's share of the total crypto market value. Rising dominance usually means Bitcoin is leading and altcoins are under pressure. Falling dominance often accompanies altcoin strength. Read the season index and the dominance trend together for a fuller picture.
The CoinGyaan approach
We take the top coins by rank, remove stablecoins and wrapped assets, and count how many beat Bitcoin over 7 days. That share is the index. We also track Bitcoin dominance and its direction over time. The data providers can change and the interpretation is ours.
